Here are the key trends to inspire your next lighting update.
‘Vintage-inspired lighting is poised to be a major interiors trend in 2025 due to its timeless charm and the growing desire for unique, character-filled spaces,’ explains Mary Buchanan, creative director at Laura Ashley Lighting. ‘With the rising popularity of eclectic design styles, vintage lighting serves as both a functional and artistic focal point that is founded on rich design heritage and traditional values of quality and originality.’

2. Smoked sophistication
Smoked glass is a key trend this year, offering both versatility and visual appeal, whether in large-scale pendant lighting or statement pieces. Its grey tint creates soft, diffused light while adding a touch of glamour and moody elegance. As Peter Legg from där lighting notes: ‘Its timeless appeal ensures it will never go out of fashion, making it a wise investment for any home.’

3. Biophilic lighting
One of the most exciting lighting trends for 2025 centres around biophilic design. Focused on reconnecting interiors with nature, biophilic lighting aims to reduce stress and promote wellbeing by incorporating organic shapes and natural tones.
Ideal for all areas of the home, especially an office or study, biophilic lighting brings the calming essence of the outdoors inside. Think natural finishes paired with gentle lighting that mirrors daylight. The result? Spaces that feel harmonious, calming, and restorative.
‘We’re seeing designs incorporate natural materials and elements such as rattan, wood, bamboo and recycled glass,’ says Ally Dowsing-Reynolds, co-founder and lighting expert at Dowsing & Reynolds. ‘These introduce warmth and texture into the space, helping to create a calmer atmosphere.’
4. A copper comeback
Warm, rich, and oh-so-inviting, copper is the metal of choice in 2025 when it comes to lighting design. Its ability to pair seamlessly with bold or neutral palettes makes it a versatile choice, bringing cosiness, luxury, and versatility to spaces, while its durability aligns with the move towards sustainable design. Expect to see copper accents radiating warmth in everything from floor lamps to ceiling fixtures and even plug sockets.

5. Mixed metals for a modern twist
Why stick to one metal when you can have them all? Combining different metallic finishes – think brass paired with nickel and bronze with brushed chrome – adds visual depth and flexibility to lighting schemes.
Lee Lovett, creative director and co-founder of Soho Lighting, comments on the growing demand: ‘We’re seeing a change in direction for the popularity of finishes, leaning into a wider range of metallics, with a demand for bronze finishes, silvered tones, and both brushed and polished chrome.’
6. Layered lighting for mood and functionality
Gone are the days of relying solely on a single ceiling pendant; layered lighting is key for flexible, mood-driven interiors.
Lena Gierasinska, head of product and displays at Barker and Stonehouse, explains: ‘Layering your lighting helps to create the perfect atmosphere within the home and not only impacts the look and feel but also our wellbeing. A room must have more than one type of lighting, as this will allow for flexibility and for the look and feel of a room to be instantly transformed at the flip of a switch.’
Combining table lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces, and dimmable overhead lighting can transform a space depending on the time of day, desired atmosphere, and functional needs.
7. Soft industrial aesthetic
The ‘soft industrial’ trend offers all the rough edginess of industrial design but with a warm, approachable feel. Think exposed metals, matt finishes, and natural materials, but with a gentle silhouette and sleek sophistication. This trend allows industrial lighting styles to blend seamlessly with modern homes, offering the ideal mix of function and form without feeling too harsh.
8. Playful and artful
Lighting that makes a statement continues to shine bright in 2025. Vibrant-coloured lampshades are stepping into the limelight as a way to inject personality into interiors. Not just a functional accessory, but patterned lampshades can stand alone as works of art too.
‘Changing your lampshades seasonally is an affordable way to switch up a colour scheme without overhauling your entire interior scheme,’ says Shelley Cochrane, accessories buyer at Furniture Village. ‘There is nothing quite like a light to complete the look; it’s like jewellery for the home.’

9. Curved, wavy shapes
Flowing curves and organic shapes are taking over lighting design for 2025. Not only is it a perfect way to balance angular interiors, but it also adds softness and movement to spaces.
Georgia Metcalfe, founder of French Bedroom, notes: ‘Layering your existing lighting with gentle feminine shapes means you can add both charm and character to your interior.’
Whether it’s scalloped designs, waves, or fluid curves, this style is all about elegance, sophistication, and whimsy – perfect for creating cosy, intimate areas or standout focal points in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms alike.

10. The natural look
There’s a growing demand for natural materials in lighting designs, with rattan, bamboo, and reclaimed wood leading the way.
The use of organic materials brings warmth, texture, and a touch of modernity, creating rooms that feel effortlessly inviting. Lightweight designs also make it easier to experiment with layouts, while the natural look aligns with today’s mindful, eco-conscious aesthetic.
