Cedar by BEHR

BEHR has officially named its exterior stain color of the year: Cedar, a warm and timeless hue inspired by natural cedarwood. Cedar is part of the brand’s second annual Curb Appeal Collection, which is designed to simplify the color-selecting process for homeowners’ exterior makeovers and updates. The collection pairs Cedar with complementary hues for decks, porches, fences, doors, trim, and more.

“As the spring season turns consumer attention to outdoor projects, Cedar is the perfect choice for homeowners looking to apply an inviting shade to exterior wood surfaces,” Andy Lopez, BEHR’s senior vice president and head of marketing, said in a press release. “Cedar not only reflects the current consumer desire for natural, earthy tones, but it also combines classic characteristics with quality performance that will stand the test of time.”

The rich, sophisticated stain color can be paired with vibrant hues, like yellow, teal, and orange, or stand out against more subtle ones like soft grays and creamy whites. Cedar is available in both a solid color and semi-transparent finish.

Oxford Brown by Pittsburgh Paints Co.

The Pittsburgh Paints Company announced their woodcare brands (Olympic Stains, Pittsburgh Paints & Stains, and Flood Wood Finishes) have chosen Oxford Brown as their 2025 stain color of the year. This earthy stain features tones like amber and russet for a rustic yet contemporary addition to any outdoor area.

“For years, minimalist blacks and subtle white oaks have dominated the stain space,” says Pittsburgh Paints Co. global color expert Ashley McCollum. “We opted for a warmer, more invigorating direction with Oxford Brown that transcends design styles.”

The brand’s woodcare experts recommend Oxford Brown stain and sealant in semi-transparent opacity to preserve and enhance the natural look of the wood grain. Alternatively, the solid-color option is suggested for old or weathered wood that requires durable, long-lasting protection.

Burnt Hickory by Cabot

Just in time for springtime renovations, Cabot, the premium exterior wood care brand, announced Burnt Hickory as its 2025 color of the year. This natural brown shade is infused with charcoal undertones, which deepen as the sun goes down, highlighting the warmth of firepits, string lights, and the serene glow of evening.

“Homeowners are embracing the notion of ‘slow living’ and seeking outdoor experiences that allow them to savor life’s small moments,” explains Sue Kim, Cabot’s director of color marketing. “Burnt Hickory’s rich, natural tone fosters serene, quality-focused spaces that invite a slower pace and deeper connection with nature.”

Burnt Hickory, part of the brand’s Exterior Wood Stain + Sealer line, is available at retailers nationwide in solid, semi-solid, and semi-transparent opacities. Transform a deck, fence, or outdoor furniture with this traditional yet modern color for an inviting space that seamlessly integrates with nature.

Mocha Mousse by Pantone

Pantone’s 2025 pick for Color of the Year is Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a medium-shade brown that’s both modern and sophisticated. Shades of brown are the design world’s hottest neutrals at the moment, so this rich shade comes as no surprise.

“Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release.

Resembling the creamy combination of whipped chocolate and coffee, Mocha Mousse can be used as an indulgent shade in a luxurious formal setting, or as a timeless classic in a traditional living space.

Brick Red by Glidden

Another Glidden color of the year has been selected, but this time it’s all about spray paint. Brick Red, a rich and warm shade that complements Glidden’s 2025 color of the year, Purple Basil, revamps pieces from lamps to vases with a sophisticated pop of red. The brand hopes the hue encourages consumers to embrace the power of color in their homes, and perhaps pair it with Purple Basil for a saturated yet harmonious space.

“We’re empowering consumers with the freedom to choose a bold color and giving them the tools to complete the look of their room or project,” says Ashley McCollum, PPG color expert for Glidden. “Brick Red evokes a rare sense of luxury and sophistication that easily adapts to both contemporary and traditional homes.”

The spray paint shade is available in both a satin and matte finish. It is designed to cover wood, metal, vinyl, and more. The brand suggests DIY enthusiasts transform items they already have into stylish and visually interesting red accent pieces. Whether it be on chair or coffee table legs, hardware, or an outlet cover, splashes of this enveloping color can add depth to any space.

Cinnamon Slate by Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore opted for a slightly moody, nature-inspired hue for their color of the year. Cinnamon Slate is a balanced mix of rich plum and smooth chocolate brown that the brand calls “adaptable, yet distinct.” Cinnamon Slate was chosen because it is captivating on its own, but isn’t so bold that it takes over a room. The paint color is part of the brand’s 10-color palette, which features five warm and five cool shades that can be used in any combination for a subtle and relaxed pop of color.

“Cinnamon Slate is an inviting hue that offers enduing style and modern sensibility,” Andrea Magno, color marketing and development director at Benjamin Moore, said in a press release. “Its depth and richness bring an air of approachability and sense of comfort throughout the home, making it a new favorite for years to come.”

Krylon’s Hammered Black is the brand’s pick for color of the year. The shade is moody yet sophisticated and was picked for its unique finish that adds depth to any space or project.

“Hammered black introduces a new level of appreciation for statement pieces with its rich, textured allure,” Ashley Banbury, Krylon’s color marketing manager, said in a press release. “Bridging the gap between the indoor environment and the mysterious beauty of the night, Hammered Black brings a sense of calm and grounding, reminiscent of the serene moments before dusk.”

When paired with Krylon’s suggested companion colors (metallic gold, metallic silver, and deep, inky blue), Hammered Black perfectly fits the gothic, whimsigoth, and brutalist design trends dominating modern home decor.

Caramelized by Dunn-Edwards

Classic beige turns warm and earthy with Caramelized, the Dunn-Edwards 2025 color of the year. Caramelized is a shade of terra-cotta brown that puts a modern, sun-soaked twist on nostalgic neutrals. The soft color is versatile enough to fit any design style, from retro to contemporary.

“In the current fast-paced, high-tech age, we find ourselves drawn to more saturated and timeless colors to create personal spaces that feel welcoming, stylish, and grounded,” says Lauren Hoferkamp, lead color expert at Dunn-Edwards, in a press release. “When considering the draw to a mindset of ‘old is new,’ Caramelized emerged from our 2025 Color and Design Trends as a clear representation of this new year.”

Consider pairing Caramelized with off-white or cream colors to make a room feel light and airy or with darker colors like navy or charcoal for a moody, modern feel. Caramelized also pairs beautifully with light wood accents, like natural wood trim or furniture.

Purple Basil by Glidden

Glidden by PPG introduced a stunning jewel tone—Purple Basil—for its 2025 color of the year. The hue is a rich, approachable, and welcoming shade of violet that can be easily used in any style of home, whether traditional or modern. Purple Basil merges design styles and signals a shift in what homeowners are looking for in their spaces—more color and fewer neutrals.

Asked to describe Purple Basil in three words, Ashley McCollum, PPG color expert for Glidden, calls it bold, opulent, and homey. She says the color is equally cozy and warm as it is opulent and rich, making it a perfect paint for those who want to dive into color but still want a sense of security. While shades of purple might have seemed difficult to incorporate in the past, Purple Basil makes the color feel more accessible.

Purple Basil can be used on both interior and exterior walls and features. McCollum predicts that homeowners will use the purple hue on both front doors and shutters, as well as on porch ceilings. Inside, she suggests the shade be used in offices and bathrooms, as well as on kitchen cabinets. Color-drench an entire space for an eye-catching statement or create contrast with patterned wallpaper. Be sure to get a sample first—depending on the paint’s finish or texture of the surface it’s applied to, the paint can morph into various shades, some leaning more blue and others more red.

Elderton by Graham & Brown

A medium brown that’s both sophisticated and contemporary, Elderton is Graham & Brown‘s color of the year. Paula Taylor, the brand’s head stylist and trend specialist, calls Elderton a “chameleon color that can be sophisticated yet cozy depending on the mood of the space it is in.”

The paint color was chosen in part because of its versatility when it comes to blending design styles. “Elderton has a huge amount of depth, reconnecting us with nature and enhancing our relation to the earth,” Taylor said in a press release. “Our homes are spaces where we can be our most honest and creative selves and Elderton is the perfect hue to unleash the potential of any room.”

Lean into the color’s nature-inspired hue by using it as the backdrop for a rustic living room, bedroom, or bathroom. Or, lean into the old-world charm of dark academia by color-drenching a home office.

C2 Raku #549 by C2 Paint

Moody and rich, C2 Raku is C2 Paint’s 2025 color of the year—and there is a beautiful meaning behind its name. The hue is inspired by the type of pottery used in ancient Japanese tea ceremonies. Raku is a unique earthenware that celebrates individuality and intentionality—just as the paint color does. C2 Raku is an earthy and deep brownish red that is calming yet dramatic and can work in any style of home.

“Raku is an expression of balance, comfort, and timeless elegance. In a world where polarizing views can divide and isolate, Raku offers a palette that returns us to simple, grounding pleasures,” says Philippa Radon, C2 Paint’s color director. “This rich hue, with its deep cordovan earthy brown hue and sanguine undertones, embodies the art of revitalizing the old with the succession of its renewal—an echo of a timeless classic flourishing in a modern world.”

With hints of mahogany, this color can be used in formal spaces like a dining room or office, especially when highlighted with other traditional features like gold accents and ornate fabric. If you love the color but don’t want to drench the room in it, paint an accent wall or piece of furniture with C2 Raku and the rest of the room in another vivid jewel tone.

Mapped Blue by Dutch Boy Paints

Dutch Boy Paints’ Mapped Blue is the brand’s pick for color of the year. The medium blue-gray hue has subtle yellow undertones and a slight hint of gray, helping it pair well with both warm and cool color palettes. The announcement is part of the brand’s Color Trends Forecast for 2025, which includes three curated color palettes that showcase the versatility of Mapped Blue.

“Our 2025 One-Coat Color Trend Forecast, with Mapped Blue at its core as Color of the Year, reflects the evolving needs of today’s homeowners,” Michelle Bangs, senior brand manager, said in a press release. “Through these three thoughtfully curated palettes, we hope to empower DIYers to create spaces that are both personally meaningful and enduring.”

Use the medium blue in both classic and contemporary interiors. It’s subtle enough to use on walls, while providing enough of a pop to be used as a space’s accent color as well.

Violet by Minwax

Whether it’s a lavender latte or a moody purple decor piece, violet tones are everywhere this year—prompting Minwax to choose Violet as their color of the year. An unexpected mix of traditional and modern, the purple stain color was chosen because it represents a bold era of self expression within the home decor world, but it also pairs well with traditional wood tones and more classic design choices.

“Violet, when paired with natural wood tones, creates a striking contrast that feels both classic and contemporary,” Lisbeth Parada, the brand’s color and design lead, said in a press release. “From subtle color accents to bold statements with color drenching, this versatile shade offers homeowners countless ways to infuse depth and character into any space.”

The stain color is in the blue color family but has red undertones, providing a balanced hue that works well with all color schemes and design styles. Use it to bring contemporary flair to an antique furniture piece, or incorporate it into your next deck or flooring renovation project.

Encore 8002-45G by Valspar

Blue paint colors reigned in 2024, and it’s clear they’re not going anywhere in 2025. Valspar’s color of the year is Encore—a rich, saturated jewel tone that is a sophisticated departure from the vibrant light blue the brand chose last year. The color trend experts at Valspar chose this shade for its versatility; the deep blue blends seamlessly with both modern interiors and Old World design styles.

“Its atmospheric deep blue tones emulate both the elusive luxury of old world design and the futuristic blending of our physical and digital world, making it a color that feels familiar and unexpected at the same time,” says Sue Kim, Valspar’s director of color marketing. Make a bold statement by using the paint color to create a stunning accent wall, or jump on the jewel box bathroom trend.

Rumors by BEHR

Following the trend of deep, earthy hues, BEHR’s pick for color of the year is Rumors, a rich red shade with brown undertones. Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at BEHR, told us this color choice was inspired by the need for warmer neutrals that can also make a moody, bold statement. “Now we’re kind of transitioning into some of these warmer neutrals—ivories and creams and tans and taupes—we’re seeing those warmer neutrals starting to come to the forefront,” Woelfel says. “People are really starting to look for ways to bring those bolder colors, those edgier colors, into their home.”

Another reason to love this color choice is that it can adapt easily to any design style. “Rumors is undoubtedly a color that inspires creativity while being versatile enough to transform a space through large and small projects,” Andy Lopez, senior vice president and head of marketing for BEHR, said in a press release.

Use Rumors to add drama in the form of a bold accent wall, or lean into the shade’s sophisticated side by using it in a formal dining room, study, or living space.

Mochi by Little Greene

Rethink your neutrals with a paint color that’s more saturated than a traditional beige, white, or gray. Mochi by Little Greene is a rich light brown with peachy pink undertones, designed to work in both historically-inspired homes and ultra-modern spaces. “Rich warm colors deliver cocooning, restful and charming spaces and are perfect for creating enticing and sumptuous spaces within our homes,” says Ruth Mottershead, creator director at Little Greene. “Perfect for use in ‘all-over’ schemes in both contemporary and traditional settings, this delightful neutral hue works really well in a color-drenched room as an alternative to white, gray or stone.”

Mottershead recommends pairing Mochi with Scullery, a rich, dark brown, and Shirting, a pure, bright white, to enhance a space’s contemporary elements. To play up the more traditional elements of a room, pair Mochi with greens and grays for a grounded, earthy feel.
